Enyimba of Aba won the Oriental derby last Sunday by pulling 1-0 victory over Rangers to earn maximum points from two games, and the Aba Millionaires could make it a flawless start to the season if they beat visiting Rivers United in another clash of title contenders on Wednesday at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba on Wednesday.
Enyimba have not dropped a point since ex-international, Finidi George, took over as coach, and after the win in Enugu, there’s no better way to lay down a season’s marker than to claim another massive scalp in Rivers United who also smashed Katsina United 3-0 on Matchday 2 to mark their return to the Adokiye Amesiamaka stadium in Port Harcourt last week.
Another hundred percent record which will also be on the line is that of newcomers Remo Stars who followed up their impressive 2-0 away win at MFM on opening day with another 3-0 clinical dispatch of Heartland FC last weekend.
The Gbenga Ogunbote boys have shown that they not only have a sharp attack with five goals in two games – the highest in the league – but that they also have a mean defence which is yet to concede in 180 minutes, the best in the League.
Now, they’ll welcome Nasarawa United who were held to a 1-1 draw at home and are yet to strike their excellent form of last season. Remo are favoured to win and maintain their perfect start, a development that will gladden club owner Kunle Soname, one of only two private owners in the 20-team league.
At the other end of the table, early struggles against relegation will commence in earnest with pointless MFM welcoming back their former handler Fidelis Ilechukwu’s Plateau United who got back their campaign on track with a 1-0 win over Kwara United after an opening day loss.
Kano Pillars, uncharacteristically on one point after two games, will face Katsina United who, alongside MFM and Sunshine, are the only teams yet to get a point.
Sunshine Stars, still searching for a first league point of the season will host Rangers who are also smarting from their home loss to Enyimba last Sunday. Anything other than the three points would spark panic in the camp of the Akure Gunners.
