The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, has lamented the rate of vandalism and pilferage of its infrastructure across the country.
Mr Freeborn Okhirie, the NRC Managing Director had expressed his fears during a visit to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, headquarters in Abuja.
Okhirie had praised the NSCDC for its continuous efforts in protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, (CNAI), which has, over the years, led to the apprehension of railway thieves.
However, the MD remarked that despite the NSCDC efforts to salvage the NRC from economic saboteurs, the corporation was still suffering losses through vandalism of its installations nationwide.
According to the NRC boss, all hands had to be involved in confronting the disturbing trend which he already tagged as “an organised conspiracy to commit economic sabotage”.
He also called for a stronger synergy amongst critical stakeholders and security agencies to bring the criminals and sponsors of such vandalism to justice.
Finally, Okhirie urged Nigerians to provide information that would lead to the arrest of suspects so that the infrastructure meant to meet the public’s needs would be fixed.
