The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, has just suspended its Warri-Itakpe Train Service as a result of the derailment of a train plying the route on Sunday, January 22.
This was announced via a statement made available to news reporters by Sanni Abdulganiyu, the Coordinator of the Warri-Itakpe Train Service, on Sunday. He then afterward revealed that the cause of the derailment had not yet been determined by the authorities.
This incident has left a lot of stranded passengers.
Abdulganiyu had said,
“The Warri Itakpe Train Service WITS 01 derailed at Km 30 Ajaokuta-Itakpe section of the track at about 12:30hrs of Sunday 22nd January 2023.
“Thankfully, there was no casualty recorded after the train derailed. All 148 passengers and 30 crew members have been evacuated to a safe place and arrangements made to convey the 148 passengers to their various destinations and this task has been completed.”
“While the cause of the derailment is still yet to be determined, due to this incident, the service along the corridor is henceforth suspended. Further details would be made known to members of the public.” He concluded.
