According to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in 2022, 457 people were detained in connection with oil theft and unlawful trafficking in petroleum products.
In addition, seven suspected Bororo Fulani and 13 suspected illegal miners were detained for stirring up trouble in various regions of the state. When reviewing the Command’s accomplishments for 2022 in Asaba yesterday, the State Commandant, Mr. Akinsanya Abiodun, revealed these. He said a total of 59 trucks, 1529 drums, 153 Toyota Sienna and 17 Toyota Camry, five boats, and three buses were recovered from the suspects.
All of these cars, trucks, and containers, according to Abiodun, carried allegedly contaminated petroleum products and stolen crude oil.
Of these, he added, six cases were prosecuted, five are the subject of investigations, and the NSCDC remained vigilant over all crucial government infrastructure and assets.
He claims that within that time, 45 victims of traffic accidents were rescued at various locations throughout the State, and 381 fire victims, including property valued in the millions of naira, were also saved.
The head of the NSCDC also said that out of the 36 cases recorded last year, the Command was able to settle 25 disagreements between the willing parties, ranging from land-related matters to marriage problems and others.
Abiodun added that 43 firms were renewed during the time, and the Command generated N15 million.
