In the past 14 months, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has destroyed 22 illicit oil bunkering sites and 71 unlawful refineries. Ahmed Audi, Commandant General of the Corps, stated that the move was taken to further the effort to put an end to oil theft and illegal oil bunkering.

He claims that since January, the Corps has deployed cutting-edge technology to combat the actions of criminal elements including vandals, economic saboteurs, and oil thieves, and has confiscated 134 vehicles, 36 boats, and other machinery used to carry out illegal oil bunkering across the nation.

He made this announcement Wednesday in Abuja at the International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO) 2023 commemoration, which had the subject “The Importance of Information Technology in Risks Assessment.”

The occasion also serves as a celebration of his two years in office and the completion of the program’s training in weapon handling, tactics, and reformation. According to Audi, the Corps has fought tenaciously against the actions of criminal forces.

Since his appointment exactly two years ago, he claims, the agency has made steady and remarkable progress following the theme of this year’s World Civil Defense Day, noting that disaster management, risk assessment, crime detection and prevention, and protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) like petroleum pipelines, electrical installations, communication equipment, roads, railways, and other have all significantly improved from what it was.
