NUJ Disparage EFCC Invasion of Enugu Radio Station

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for invading a radio station in Enugu State.

The Commission had on Monday evening, disrupted a live broadcast of Urban 94.5 Fm to abduct a broadcaster, Favour Ekoh.

The staff members of the station were reportedly forced to sit on the floor during the radio station’s invasion and proceeded to tamper with their broadcasting equipment.

The NUJ chairman , Enugu Council, Comrade Sam Udekwe, had said the action of the Commission was very condemnable, as “this is not a military era.”

Udekwe further tagged the act as disreputable regardless of the seriousness of the investigation they were carrying out.

In his words;

“It is only in times of military seizure of power that we experience such an act of forceful disruption of broadcast transmission of this kind. No matter what offence, it’s the individual that may have committed it as alleged and should be gone after in a due process and not extending it to public facilities like radio on air.”

The NUJ Chairman had also called for a detailed investigation into the matter to ascertain whether the act was truly carried out by men on official duty.

He also urged the EFCC to apologise to the station and general public for the embarrassment and unethical act.
