The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) delightedly confirmed the liberation of two kidnapped corps members in Zamfara. The Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, joyfully revealed the breakthrough, highlighting the arduous journey these young individuals faced before regaining their freedom.

The abduction occurred during the corps members’ travel from Uyo, Akwa Ibom, to Sokoto State. An Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus carrying these prospective service participants became the unfortunate target.

Out of the 11 abducted individuals, three managed to escape during the abduction, leaving eight corps members and the driver taken into the wilderness. Subsequent rescue efforts led to the freedom of three individuals on different dates, leaving four still captive.

In a heartfelt statement on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Megwa expressed relief and hope for the rescued members and the remaining four captives. He emphasized the scheme’s concerns over the prolonged plight faced by these youngsters who were set to serve their nation.

The released corps members are currently undergoing medical attention, expected to reunite with their families once they regain their strength and continue their national service, signifying a glimmer of hope amidst a distressing situation.

A Glimpse of Hope Amidst Ongoing Challenges

Director Megwa assured the nation of the NYSC’s unwavering commitment to securing the safe release of the remaining four still held by the kidnappers. Stressing the need for caution and proactive measures, he urged traveling corps members to avoid night journeys and take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves against such criminal activities.

Megwa’s serious yet subtly humorous advice to prioritize safety over service echoed the grim reality of the prevalent security challenges, urging all to steer clear of night travel and rest after 6 p.m. for their own safety.

While celebrating the rescue, Megwa’s cautionary tone serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security concerns, shedding light on the imperative need for preventive measures in a nation grappling with the scourge of kidnapping.

The message remains clear: personal safety should never be compromised for national service. In a country where uncertainties loom, the call for vigilance and safety measures holds paramount importance, especially for those venturing into unfamiliar terrains for their noble service to Nigeria.
