The former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Prof Attahiru Jega, has remarked that Nigeria had to either provide the resources to continue to make participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme mandatory or otherwise make participation in it voluntary.
Prof Jega had made this remark during his address at the Opening Ceremony of the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the NYSC earlier on Monday, May 15 in Abuja where he had spoken as the guest lecturer.
Additionally, Jega had proposed that if the service must be retained, it must also be repositioned to give a substantial impact on national development, or else it would not be lasting for another decade.
