In keeping with the government’s commitment to enhancing the transport infrastructure, Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki turned on the upgrading works at Sakponba and Sapele Road Junction on Tuesday.
Additionally, the governor opened a computerised vehicle centre for the State’s Vehicle Inspection Office. Obaseki stated that the State has continued to control the industry, guaranteeing a more effective and efficient system.
He claimed that since 2016, his government has concentrated on revamping the State’s transport system.
“We began enforcing traffic laws and established the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) to provide assistance.
“We have witnessed an incredible advancement in the transit network. “We established a separate body to oversee transport.
We established the Edo State Transport Management Authority’, Obaseki was stated in a statement released on Tuesday by the Edo State Government Media office.
“These junctions are in the transport master plan which is a part of the 30-year Edo State master plan,” stated Obaseki in reference to the recently opened intersections.
Everything pertaining to transportation in the state is under the jurisdiction of the Edo State Transportation Management Authority.
He stated that his government will install CCTV cameras throughout the state to monitor motorists’ behaviour and prevent criminal activity, which will be linked to a command and control centre.The governor stated, “I want to thank the various transport unions in the state because they are part of the master plan.
“ You have been a vital supporter of our government. I encourage you to work with EDSTMA to ensure that all plans are included into the master plan.
We need your help to ensure that the strategy works.” At the launching of the VIO Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre, Governor Obaseki said the centre will help improve the worthiness of automobiles in the State, ensuring they are in good shape so that they minimise accidents
Mrs. Edugie Agbonlahor, Managing Director of the Edo State Transportation Management Authority, praised the governor for his development efforts in all areas of the state.
She praised the governor for the project, stating that this transport management system will be replicated across major junctions in the state.
“The purpose of the junction upgrade work is to improve traffic flow and reduce commuter travel time. I encourage people to always use the walkway, as it is not for trading.”
