According to reports, at least one person has been killed in Bayelsa state as a result of the violence that erupted in the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP)’s primaries held in various parts of the country for the House of Representatives and House of Assembly respectively.
Some of these include the Bayelsa tragedy, where an exercise held at the Constituency One in the Ogbia Local Government Area turned to violence and led to the death of a man called Michael Isaiah by gunshot. An alleged abduction in Osun State of several politicians as well as feuding factions holding parallel elections at the same time. Details of the incidents as still murky as of yet, but eyewitness sources have confirmed that the shootout that occurred in Ogbia occurred due to conflict over the validity of the list of delegates provided to the constituency to be used in the voting.
In reaction to the Ogbia murder, an aspirant vying for a shot at the Ogbia Federal Constituency under the PDP banner, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson called out the murder. In a statement made in Yenegoa, he described the killing as nothing short of sad and barbaric and said that no political office, no matter how grand, was worth a person’s life. He tasked security officials with tracing and nabbing the killers as none of them should be allowed to go unpunished.
