One Injured, Three Nabbed As Hoodlums Attack Ogun State Policemen.

Three men named, Olayiwola Bashiru, Bamimore Isiaka, and soliu have been apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command for attacking a policeman and trying to cover evidence by attempting to burn a towing vehicle at an accident scene.

According to SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police spokesperson of the state, he revealed that they got information about an accident on December 31st, 2022, Akinpelu Sunday, the police sergeant attached to the Traffic section of the Owode Egba, Divisional Headquarters was sent to get details about the accident, rescue the Victims and bring the vehicles involved to the station.

But unfortunately, he was attacked when he got to the scene as the Suspects used dangerous weapons to attack the policeman to prevent the investigation from being carried out in one of the vehicles. The policeman and the driver of the towing vehicle managed to escape after being severely Injured.

Olasunkanmi Popoola the DPO of the region immediately heard about the incident, and brought reinforcement to the scene, they might the hoodlums trying to burn the vehicle, some were arrested, while others ran away.

 said, “…but on getting to the scene, the suspects attacked the policeman and the towing vehicle driver with a sledgehammer, stick, and other dangerous weapons to prevent them from taking one of the vehicles involved to the station for further investigation.

“The policeman and the towing vehicle driver managed to escape from the scene and ran to the station with varying degrees of injuries.

“The Divisional Police Officer, Owode Egba division, CSP Olasunkanmi Popoola, when hinted, led his men to the place where he met the suspects who had already poured petrol on the towing vehicle and was about setting it ablaze after removing the cash sum of N520,000 belonging to the vehicle driver.

Three among the hoodlums were arrested, while others escaped but the remaining petrol was recovered from them.”

The state Commissioner of police has ordered that the suspects be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department, for further investigation of the case.

Assaulting and trying to kill a police officer while on duty is no small issue.
