Muhammad Barkindo, the Secretary-general of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries -OPEC, Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo is confirmed dead. Mele Kyari, who was the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company -NNPC Limited, broke the news of Barkindo’s death to the world. The OPEC Secretary-General died several hours after visiting the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock on Tuesday.
Kyari announced on Twitter, where he tweeted about the secretary general’s death in the late hours of Tuesday. OPEC also confirmed the death of Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo. It was revealed that he passed away on 6 July 2022 in his home country, Nigeria. OPEC Secretariat reported that Barkindo’s death was a huge loss to the whole OPEC Family, the oil industry, and the international community at large.
Barkindo died hours after his meeting with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari at the state house. It has been revealed that President Buhari describe di OPEC Secretary-general as ‘a worthy ambassador of our country’ at the meeting.
The media adviser to the President, Femi Adesina in a statement quoting President Buhari said “We are proud of your achievements, before and during your appointment at OPEC and the proud legacies you will leave behind”
Until his death His Excellency, Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo was the current Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries -OPEC at the OPEC Secretariat in Vienna, Austria.
