The Lagos State Government has announced the immediate closure of the pedestrian bridge linking Oshodi Bus Terminals 2 and 3 due to safety concerns.
The authorities expressed concerns about the bridge’s safety and structural integrity.
Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, issued the order in a statement on Friday, citing worries about the bridge’s condition.
“The order also mandated the contractor responsible for the initial construction of the terminal, through the Office of Infrastructure, to place concrete barriers at the entrances leading to the bridge. This is to safeguard the lives of pedestrians who use the infrastructure,” he said.
The commissioner added that the closure will allow for a thorough structural integrity examination of the bridge, determining if it has to be repaired or rebuilt.
While the inspection is being undertaken, Osiyemi urged pedestrians to use an alternative bridge 30 metres away.
