Osun 2022: Oyetola holds pole position but never rule out Adeleke

According to Punch, leaders in Osun State’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), backed Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, the State’s current governor, for a second term in office on Wednesday. Senate spokesman Basiru Ajibola, the immediate former deputy governor of Osun State, Mrs Titi Laoye-Ponle, and other senior leaders have backed him.

This indicates that the permutations for the Osun State gubernatorial election, set for July 16, 2022, have begun. Even though nothing is known about the State’s opposition party, they will be aiming to take over the State from the APC. It is true that Ademola Adeleke, the 2018 contender, has already gained national PDP endorsement after party leaders stated he had already been nominated.

As a result, the struggle for the State’s gubernatorial election in 2022 will be between Oyetola and Adeleke, exactly as it was in 2018 when Oyetola narrowly won.

However, based on the type of support he receives from state party officials and the political gimmicks used by the contestants, Oyetola may glide to another win.

All politicians are aware that winning an election is determined by the number of votes cast and the number of senior politicians who support a candidate in Nigeria. These top politicians are familiar with their areas and how they will rally their constituents to vote for a specific candidate. As a result of these leaders endorsing Oyetola as their candidate, he may win the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Osun State in 2022.
