We might not focus much on Livestock robbery, but there are sects in several states who focus on stealing people’s livestock and selling it to others, normally they carry out their operations at night. However, every form of offense against property which is usually stealing is always punished
On Wednesday, the Osun State Police Command nabbed two alleged goat thieves, Naheem Ibrahim 46 years old, and Suraju Isiaka 33 years old along the Ode Omu/Sekona road with some stolen goats.
The suspects stacked the goats in a Lexus jeep, but fortunately, they were caught by the police. According to Yemisi Opalola, the State’s Police Spokesperson in a statement said that the suspects confessed to having been engaged in the business since 2019 and that they normally carry out their operation at night around 8-10 pm.
They were taking the goats to Lagos to sell to one Bisola who normally buys them for 5,000 before they were intercepted by the police.
Opalola further said, “Today being 10/05/2023 at about 0310hrs, a police team from Safer Highway Patrol along Odeomu-Sekona axis arrested the above-named suspects in possession of 14 live and one dead goat (she-goat).
“The suspects stated further that their time of operation is between 8 pm to 10 pm before night guards at various locations report for duty. The suspects also affirmed that those stolen goats are usually sold for prices ranging from N5,000.”
In a new statement on Saturday, the Osun State Police Command said those whose Goats were stolen should go to the Police Command at Osogbo to check for the goats recovered.
They further advised residents to be very cautious and vigilant and that any suspicious activities should be reported, and also they advised that those who have livestock should find a way to secure their animals.
