The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has remarked that its duty was not the regulate the contents of the social media networks that many stakeholders have complained about.
This is coming after a visit by the National Civil Society Council of Nigeria, NCSCN, led by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Blessing Akinsolotu had sought the intervention of the communications commission on the false and misleading content trending on social media platforms.
But the Director of Public Affairs of the Commission, Mr. Reuben Muoka, who received the group on behalf of the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, had told the organization that the Commission’s mandate did not extend to controlling the content of such media platforms as its major role was to facilitate the deployment of telecom infrastructure to provides different types of telecommunications services.
