Not less than six health facilities have been cordoned off across the Oyo State capital by the state government over reports of quackery.
The six health facilities which had been shut down, had committed various atrocities, according to the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade. Their crimes included enlisting unqualified personnel to provide medical services and engage in fraudulent practices.
The facilities sealed included the New Jobi Memorial Hospital; Omolara Clinic & Maternity Home, Iped Amazing Grace Medical Clinic; Emiloju Clinic and Maternity Centre Ogbere and Safeway Clinic, Gbaremu; Emilagba Clinic and Maternity Centre, Ibadan.
Dr Adekunle Aremu, the State Anti-quackery Task Force Committee Chairman, while speaking during an inspection and monitoring exercise within the Ibadan metropolis had said that the team carried out the operation as part of the government’s efforts towards safeguarding the health and well-being of residents.
He also said that the Oyo State government would not endure any form of quackery or substandard practice in the health sector.
According to him, anyone found guilty would face the full wrath of the law.
Therefore, Aremu called on the public to report any doubtful or illegal activity in any health facility to the Ministry of Health or the nearest security agency.
The public was also encouraged to patronize only accredited and duly registered health facilities in the state, adding that they must make sure that only qualified personnel attend to them. Finally, he appealed to health workers to obey the ethics and standards of their profession.
