Yesterday, alleged Boko Haram terrorists struck and abducted many Passengers and motorists traveling along Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, burning a few trucks carrying food items and a petrol tanker. The devastating news came after the Nigerian Army reported that it had recovered about 706 small arms and light weapons from bandits and other criminals operating in states like Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi respectively.
The attack took place in the area between Mainok and Lawan Mainari village. According to an eyewitness, Mohammed Abdullahi’s report, “The incident took place at around 9 am, where a convoy of terrorists was sighted at their crossing point leading to Sambisa forest. Although, I had to make a quick U-turn back to Maiduguri when I noticed that the insurgents opened fire on some trucks carrying food items, including a petrol tanker which was also set ablaze. Unfortunately, I suspected that some passengers and motorists were abducted by the insurgents.”
Additionally, security personnel who has spoken on condition of anonymity has said that the Nigerian soldiers responded immediately and chased the terrorists. The terrorist attack has yet to be confirmed at the time of this report. However, the Zamfara State Government pleaded with Emirs to strengthen their efforts in addressing insecurity challenges in the state.
