Definitely, not all offenses attract severe punishments, as some merely attract little punishment with the hope to serve as a deterrence to the offender himself. A 24-year-old man, Valentina Nmoye, was ordered by the judge, Malam Ishaq Hassan on Tuesday, to sweep the Karu Upper Area Court, Abuja premises for three hours, for stealing three perfumes worth 4,000 naria from a store.
He was warned by the judge to desist from such an act after he pleaded guilty to the theft. This act is punishable under section 287 of the penal code.
The Prosecutor also admitted that the accused confessed to committing the crime, during the investigation.
