The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has denied authoring the viral statements currently spreading across social media and online news platforms.
His media aide, Umar Ibrahim, cleared the air on Wednesday through an official press release.
One of the viral statements falsely claimed that Obi denied returning to the Peoples Democratic Party and instead pledged loyalty to the African Democratic Congress. The second statement alleged that he had accepted a position as the National Organising Secretary of the ADC.
But Ibrahim stated clearly that both claims are false and misleading.
“Peter Obi has been unequivocal in his position in the ongoing coalition and didn’t need anyone to put words into his mouth,” Ibrahim said.
“He has remained focused on his mission but would not accept anybody attributing a statement to him just to satisfy their devious agenda.”
He insisted that Peter Obi did not issue any of those two statements and that they did not come from his media office.

The false statements, which have been shared widely online, tried to link the former Anambra State governor to both the ADC and the PDP, even though he has not made any such declaration.
Obi’s media team stressed that Peter Obi remains committed to the cause of building a better Nigeria and that all statements from him would only be released through his official media office or his verified social media handles.
The media office urged the public to disregard any information circulating online that did not come from those two sources.
