As the preparation for the nationwide #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest intensifies, the management of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, has directed for the students of the institution to, “as a matter of urgency and security expediency, remain calm in their hostels and halls of residences.”

This order was communicated in a statement issued by the University’s Acting Registrar, Comrade Ambrose E. Odiase.

The institution also announced that arrangements had been made with the appropriate security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property in and around the campus.

Given the development, the students were urged to focus squarely on their ongoing first-semester examinations without any fear or anxiety.

The planned protest scheduled to take place on August 1 has gained momentum and garnered wide support. Nigerian youths and the populace in general are expected to troop out en masses to express concerns on issues such as hunger, poverty and hard economic situations plaguing the country.

What They’re Saying

The statement released by the University read;

“Students and staff are hereby enjoined to avoid unnecessary movements throughout the proposed protests.  You are therefore urged to restrict your travels for now, as travelling outside Ekpoma should be avoided.”
The statement further warned that “those in the halls of residence should stay within the university premises while those off campus should restrict themselves to their residences.”

“Staff and students should attend to normal academic activities and stay away from trouble spots to avoid any risk or potential danger that may arise from the proposed protests.”

More details to come…
