A police inspector, Maxwell Zubu, attached to the Rivers State Command, has died from an apparent suicide after reportedly shooting himself in the Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Zubu, who had been serving as a security aide to a former chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, was found at the scene with a gunshot wound. The details surrounding the incident remain uncertain, and the cause of death has not been fully verified at this time.
According to reports, the case has been logged with the police post in Eagle Island, which is under the jurisdiction of the Azikiwe Police Division located at Illabouchi in Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt.
An anonymous police source confirmed that officers from the Azikiwe Police Division visited the scene as part of initial investigative procedures.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the Rivers State Police spokesperson, acknowledged the incident but declined to share further specifics. She stated that an investigation is underway to understand both the immediate and deeper causes behind the tragedy.
“We have launched a full investigation to establish the facts surrounding this death, and once completed, we will release our findings,” Iringe-Koko confirmed. “The matter has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for a more comprehensive inquiry.”
