The Police Command in Plateau State has revealed that its personnel had intercepted a heavy-duty truck conveying assorted drinks and more than 100 bags of what was later discovered to be Cannabis sativa.
Okoro Julius Alawari, the Commissioner of Police, had made this information known on Friday, September 1, while speaking to news men at the state police headquarters in Jos.
Alawari had further stated that a team of police personnel on patrol during a stop-and-search exercise along Kwata Road in Jos South Local Government Area, LGA, had found the exhibits concealed behind the drinks placed inside the truck.
The patrol unit of the command had reportedly gotten a tip off of a truck discharging a consignment suspected to be Cannabis sativa into two other smaller cars at the Kwata axis.
But on seeing the police officers while they were switching the items to the smaller vehicles, the suspects took to their heels, but, four suspects were apprehended alongside the vehicle carrying the (drug) exhibits.
The street value and the definite quantity of the exhibits is still to be assessed as investigations have begun to elucidate the real owners of the transported items for prosecution and possible imprisonment.
