The police authorities in Niger State have arrested the key suspect in the murder of a Federal University of Technology Minna lecturer, Dr Fumilola Adefolalu.
On October 29, Adefolalu was found murdered in her residence in the Gbaiko Area of the town.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the arrest of the prime suspect, remarking that two other suspects associated to the crime were still at large.
Abiodun had said that efforts were being made to arrest them.
Meanwhile, the 14-year-old teenage prime suspect is said to have been a domestic help to the deceased Dr. Adefololu for neat three weeks, according to the police spokesman said.
The suspect had confessed to how she and classmates – Walex and Smart – had planned to attack the lecturer at her residence on Saturday, October 28 with a motorcycle as the getaway vehicle after she was laid off.
Accirding to reports, the culprits had gone to the lecturer’s residence on October 28, 2023 at about 1600hrs, (4:00pm GMT +1) with a motorcycle and she knocked at the gate after which the lecturer opened the gate for her.
Shortly after, Walex and Smart entered the premises and beat and hit the lecturer’s head with a stool and stabbed her with a knife provided by Walex while Smart took another knife from the kitchen and proceeded to stab her severally.
The suspect will be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID for further investigation.
Meanwhile concerted efforts are being made to arrest the two other fleeing suspects according to Abiola.
