According to a press release from the Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, a group of individuals traveling in a Lexus were stopped for a routine check at a police checkpoint. The occupants reportedly became agitated and disrupted traffic flow by barricading the road.

Following the completion of the vehicle inspection, officers reportedly requested the occupants to proceed. However, they refused, alleging that Inspector Erekere had recorded their disruptive behavior on her mobile phone. The situation escalated as the occupants attempted to seize the phone forcefully, resulting in a violent attack on the inspector with stones.

The assault caused Inspector Erekere to lose consciousness, and she was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to the severity of her injuries.

The Rivers State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the incident. They have vowed to apprehend all those involved and bring them to justice. The spokesperson also expressed condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased officer.

The remains of Inspector Erekere have been transferred to the mortuary for an autopsy. The Rivers State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that the perpetrators face the consequences of their actions.
