The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Yakubu Lawal, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism by unknown gunmen. DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer confirmed this in a statement announced to news reporters on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital.
According to the PPRO, the policemen on routine patrol were drawn to the sound of sporadic shooting at the Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of the state on Monday, August 15 at the hours of 8:45 p.m. Thereafter the policemen attached to Nassarawa-Eggon Division quickly rushed to the scene.
“Adesina Soyemi, the police commissioner also reinforced the men with a combined detachment of the Police Mobile Force including the Anti kidnapping unit, Military personnel, Vigilante and the local hunters.”
“Upon arriving at the scene, it was found that unknown gunmen while shooting sporadically, invaded the residence of the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism and forcefully abducted him to an unknown destination.”
A search and rescue operation has commenced by the combined team, headed by the Area Commander, of the Akwanga Area Command, ACP Halliru Aliyu so that the victim will be rescued unhurt and the criminals arrested.
