According to the Vatican on Friday, March 31, Pope Francis had slept peacefully on the second night of his hospitalization for the treatment of bronchitis, with a senior cardinal remarking that the 86-year-old could be discharged as early as Saturday, April 1.
Recall that the pontiff had been admitted to Rome’s Gemelli hospital on Wednesday, March 29.
Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, the dean of the College of Cardinals, had told the Adnkronos news agency Friday that “based on the doctor’s data, the pope would probably leave Gemelli tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Vatican has not responded to requests for the confirmation of the news.
