In a bold and undoubtedly unanimous decision, The Will newspaper has bestowed its illustrious “2024 Man of the Year” award upon none other than President Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu. Truly, who better to celebrate than the man whose “reform policies” have left Nigerians reminiscing about the good old days of merely struggling?

The editorial team, clearly overwhelmed by Tinubu’s unmatched achievements, praised his ability to implement reforms that have “profoundly impacted Nigerians in ways unseen in recent history.” Indeed, “unseen” is the perfect word to describe the utter transformation the nation has undergone, because who could have predicted such a spectacular nosedive?

Let’s look at some specifics of Tinubu’s Great reforms

1. The Economic Masterstroke

By removing subsidies and floating the Naira, Tinubu expertly delivered a one-two punch to an already fragile economy. The resulting surge in fuel prices and skyrocketing logistics costs have been nothing short of brilliant, ensuring that even staple food items are now luxuries for the average Nigerian.

2. Inflation Records Broken

Under Tinubu’s visionary leadership, the inflation rate has soared to 34.60% as of November 2024, up from 33.88% in October. A spectacular achievement, considering that just a year ago, inflation was a mere 28.20%. Who knew breaking records could be this… painful?

3. A Tale of Rising Costs

Food inflation deserves special recognition. Yam, water yam, maize, and even palm oil have reached prices that only the boldest Nigerians dare to afford. Meanwhile, beer and tobacco—because who doesn’t need a drink to cope—also saw significant price hikes. Truly, these reforms have touched every corner of life.

4. The Moniker Revolution

Nigerians, ever so creative, have christened this era “T-Pain” (Tinubu Pain), a nod to the unforgettable hardships they’ve endured. Tinubu’s media team, however, insists it stands for “Temporary Pain,” while the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, offers the comforting alternative: “T-Gain” (Tinubu Gains). How reassuring!

For Nigerians, Tinubu’s policies have been nothing short of transformative. Across every social strata, citizens have embraced the “pain” with unparalleled resilience. After all, nothing unites a nation like shared suffering, right?
