Why It Matters

President Bola Tinubu emphasized the importance of national unity and sacrifice during the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir. Highlighting the need for collective effort in nation-building, his message explains the significance of community spirit and responsibility among citizens.

What They Are Saying

President Tinubu, speaking after the Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Lagos, called on Nigerians to care for their neighbors and extend charity, reflecting the spirit of the festival. He stressed that progress requires sacrifice and a commitment to national duties.

“We have been told by the Chief Imam how we can follow the path of sacrifice. The sacrifice required of a good citizen. Citizenship comes with responsibilities. As citizens, what do we need to do to be committed members of our society? Yes, that is sacrifice; loving your country. Loving your neighbors. Sharing what you have with each other. And to always be thankful to Almighty God,” the President stated.

The Chief Imam of Lagos State, Suleiman Abou-Nolla, reiterated this message in his sermon, emphasizing the need for love, sacrifice, and care for the poor and vulnerable. He cited historical leaders like Sir Ahmadu Bello, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, and Funmilayo Ransome Kuti as examples of those who dedicated their lives to the nation’s development.

The Eid-el-Kabir celebration served as a platform for President Tinubu and religious leaders to call for increased sacrifice and commitment from Nigerians. With prominent figures such as Aliko Dangote, Babatunde Fashola, and Nuhu Ribadu in attendance, the event highlighted the collective effort needed to advance the nation. The President and the Chief Imam urged citizens to continue the legacy of past leaders by contributing positively to Nigeria’s growth and prosperity.

Bottom Line

President Tinubu’s appeal during Eid-el-Kabir underscores a pivotal moment for Nigerians to reflect on their role in nation-building. By invoking the principles of sacrifice and communal care, both the President and the Chief Imam have highlighted a path toward a more unified and prosperous Nigeria. As the nation celebrates, the call to action is clear: fostering a spirit of generosity, love, and responsibility is essential for moving forward.
