Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and his mother were caught in an “almost disastrous car chase” with paparazzi, a spokesperson for the couple claimed.
The incident came after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended an awards ceremony in New York on Tuesday.
Her spokesperson said in a statement that the relentless pursuit lasted more than two hours.
In a statement, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed the incident and said a number of photographers made transport of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle difficult. However, no injuries or arrests have been reported.
The chase involved six vehicles and allegedly involved reckless driving, including driving at red lights, driving on sidewalks, blocking one-way streets, driving in the wrong direction, and taking photos while driving.
Details of a seemingly chaotic scene are revealed. The couple and Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, visited a Manhattan police station to defend themselves from paparazzi.
After that, there was a plan to use a taxi in New York, but it was eventually discovered and they switched to a dedicated security vehicle. The couple had stayed at a friend’s house but did not return in person to avoid putting their safety at risk during the chase. It is also alleged that he was not stopped by the presence of the New York Police Department although the couple use private security services in the United States.
The Ms Foundation Women of Vision Awards, which the couple attended, was the first public appearance of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle since the king’s coronation earlier this month.
