Andy Walker, ex Scotland player has noted that the sale of Aribo and Bassey might tell on the team, as losing both potential players might serve as a roadblock to them securing a place in the group stages of the UEFA champions league.
Aribo and Bassey who were fantastic players transferred to Southampton and Ajax, and this telling on the team judging from their performance in the match against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday which ended in a 2-2 draw. According to Walker, Rangers gave their best to the game but it seems something was lacking, if the duo were to still be in the team, Rangers would have won the match.
He praised, the team for doing well, as they’ve proven that they can play well, in away matches, but he further admitted that without Aribo and Bassey the team isn’t what they used to be, as both players added some sauce to the team, they were simply terrific players.
“It doesn’t matter that Rangers have lost to goals at home, they have just got a draw and they (PSV) can be a bit more open-minded in the attack.”
“Rangers have shown time and time again over the past couple of seasons that they are capable of going away from home and getting a big result.”
“The only thing I can say is that was with Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey. I thought the two of them were consistently playing at a high level. I’m just not convinced this Rangers team is as good as that one.”
