Ally McCoist, ex-Rangers head coach, has revealed that bringing back super eagles defender Leon Balogun to the club, was a good decision.
If we can recall, Balogun’s contract with Rangers expired in June, whilst with Rangers, he helped them win the Scottish premiership. Balogun who is now a free agent is yet to find a new club.
Rangers drew the match against PSV Eindhoven, in their opener of the UEFA champions league, yesterday. Speaking on the match, McCoist, said Rangers looked too small when compared with PSV, Balogun would have made a difference considering his height and skills. If it were left to him, he would have renewed his contract.
He further admitted that he still hopes, Balogun will return to the club, as he is a phenomenal player.
“I mentioned that before the first goal, Rangers looked small. PSV looked big, and I thought set plays were going to be important. Sands isn’t a natural center-back, would Balogun have made a difference? McCoist was quoted by the Daily Record.
“He’s sitting up in the stands watching Rangers on Saturday, I’m not sure I would have let him go. Souttar has injuries, you know, Helander.”
“Perhaps there is (a case to bring Balogun back), it’s not hindsight, I was surprised to see him go, I really was. I tell you what, we could have done with him tonight. He’s got height, he’s got a presence, and scored goals in Europe.”
