In a captivating first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final, heavyweights Bayern Munich and Real Madrid played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena, setting the stage for an enthralling second leg.

The encounter marked the 25th head-to-head meeting between the two European giants in the knockout rounds of the Champions League, with Real Madrid extending their unbeaten streak to eight consecutive encounters.

From the outset, it was evident that the clash promised to be a spectacle, with Leroy Sané aiming to break his goal drought early on. The winger tested Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, but was unable to find the breakthrough in the opening quarter-hour.

However, it was Real Madrid who struck first blood in the 24th minute, as Vinícius Júnior capitalized on Toni Kroos’ exquisite through ball to calmly slot home past Manuel Neuer, marking his 20th goal of the season across all competitions.

Bayern responded with vigor, with Leon Goretzka forcing a brave block from Aurélien Tchouaméni. The tempo of the game slowed after the opener, but Bayern’s persistence paid off shortly after the restart, as Sané finally found the back of the net with a powerful strike into the bottom corner.

In a whirlwind four-minute spell, Bayern completed the turnaround as Jamal Musiala won a penalty, which Harry Kane clinically converted to give the hosts the lead. However, Real Madrid refused to be deterred, with Vinícius calmly converting from the spot after Kim Min-jae brought down Rodrygo in the box.

Despite Bayern’s relentless pressure in the second half, they were unable to find a winner, with Eric Dier’s attempts being comfortably saved by Lunin. Real Madrid, on the other hand, showed resilience to secure a valuable away draw and extend their unbeaten run in the Champions League to 11 matches.

As the tie heads into the second leg, both teams remain firmly in contention for a spot in the final, with Bayern maintaining their impressive home record in the Champions League. With everything still to play for, the stage is set for another thrilling encounter as these European heavyweights vie for a place in the Champions League final.
