Holders Real Madrid extended their unbeaten home streak in the UEFA Champions League to 15 games, coming back from 2-0 down to defeat Borussia Dortmund 5-2 in a pulsating match.
Dortmund was in front early as Donyell Malen and Jamie Gittens, with goals on the half-hour mark, silenced the Santiago Bernabéu. Real Madrid struggled to get a foothold early on as Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo hit the woodwork but couldn’t find a way past Gregor Kobel before halftime.
That was until the second half when Antonio Rüdiger headed in from a Kylian Mbappe cross to halve the deficit before Vinicius Junior made the most of a defensive mistake to level the scores moments later.
Thereafter, Real pressed for a winner, which came in the 83rd minute when Lucas Vazquez punished a loose ball inside the Madrid area. Vinicius capped his hat-trick in stoppage time with a scintillating solo run and a close-range strike.
The win lifts Real Madrid level with Dortmund in their Champions League group. Carlo Ancelotti’s side now switches focus to their weekend El Clásico clash against Barcelona, while Dortmund must recover quickly for their Bundesliga meeting with Augsburg.
