Real Madrid Forward Kylian Mbappe is reported to be admitted to the hospital due to acute gastroenteritis by the football club after he was not seen in the team during the Club World Cup opener against Al-Hilal.
Mbappe did not appear in training on Tuesday and thus was not in the squad for the match against the Saudi Arabian side on Wednesday. The Spanish team released a statement on Thursday, saying that the Frenchman was “in the hospital for some tests”.
The young Frenchman has been absolutely outstanding after leaving PSG for Real Madrid in a free transfer, netting 43 times in all competitions. The number of goals made by a player in his first season at the club, surpassing Ivan Zamorano’s 1992-93 figure of 37, is a record.
Last season, Mbappe was the highest-scoring player in La Liga, having netted 31 times, ahead of Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski by four goals.
The forward’s availability for Madrid’s next Club World Cup match against Pachuca on Sunday is still a question mark. Madrid are second in Group H behind Salzburg, who won 2-1 against Pachuca on Wednesday.
