Real Madrid have officially confirmed that Dean Huijsen is their first signing under new manager Xabi Alonso, and they also presented the 19-year-old defender to the fans at Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday. The Spanish center-back will carry the number 24 jersey, which was previously worn by Arda Güler.
After stardom season at Bournemouth, Huijsen is back in Madrid but this time after that club whose players performances have attracted attention from several top clubs, including Chelsea. Yet Madrid took prompt action to ensure that Huijsen’s signature was on the side of them by activating his £50 million (€59.5m) release clause to top the board.
The transfer signifies a huge outlay on Madrid’s future, as club president Florentino Pérez stated that Huijsen will be warmly welcomed as the new era of the club begins. The young lad, who turns out to be Madrid’s first signing summer, is expected to strengthen the team before the 2025 Club World Cup.
Huijsen seemed to be overjoyed and thankful at the launch event. “From the very first day I have wanted to be here. Madrid is my dream team,” he stated. “I’m here to do my best with modesty and together, hopefully, win lots of trophies.”
The Club World Cup is just around the corner; Huijsen is bound to be in Madrid’s plan as they go for number one in the world.
