Reece James has pledged his future to Chelsea FC for a long time after agreeing to a new six-year contract that is going to keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032. The Blues captain was under contract for three more years until 2028, but the club decided to act proactively to retain one of their most valuable players.
James was one of Chelsea’s academy players when he was six, and he went to Fulham FC for a year but then continued with the Blues’ youth system. He grew up through the ranks and got his senior debut in September 2019.

Over the years, the 26-year-old has played for Chelsea 225 times in different competitions, scoring 16 goals and giving 30 assists. During that period, he has assisted the club in becoming the winner of the Champions League, UEFA Conference League, UEFA Super Cup, and two FIFA Club World Cup titles.
After Cesar Azpilicueta’s departure, James was made captain in 2023, and he still holds an important position on the London side. Up till now, the England international player has helped the team to record four Premier League clean sheets, and he has also made 47 tackles, which is just behind his teammate Moises Caicedo, who has 71.
As the head coach, Liam Rosenior expressed his admiration for the defender by calling him “the best footballer in the world in his position” and a leader whom the club is looking forward to seeing guiding Chelsea to more trophies in the coming years.
