A man has been sentenced by a Rivers State High court to death by hanging, for killing victims and using their intestines to prepare the soup.
According to the evidence given by the prosecution, he has killed a total of four persons, in Okwalia Community, Khana Local Government Area of the state.
The accused who is named Bestman Lekia was found guilty of murder, kidnapping, robbery, and Cultism after the prosecution proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt, after establishing the requisite men’s rea and Actus Reus.
The presiding justice, Justice Enebeli ordered that the Victim be hanged in the neck until he is confirmed dead.
The prosecution counsel, Chidi Ekeh said outside the courtroom, that he does not delight in the death of the victim, but he feels relived that at least justice took its course and that the people of Ogoni Community, will be at peace knowing that the serial killer is gone from the society.
He further praised the judge for being upright and knowing his worth as a judge
Ekeh stated, “As a human being, I do not take delight in the fact that he (Lekia) is going to die. But I feel happy that the law and the state did not fail society.
“That Ogoni community will know peace that they will never see him again. So to me, it was a hard-nosed judgment. The judge has demonstrated once again that he is worth his salt.”
This has just proved that there are serial killers in Nigeria, there are no documentaries to prove so, but the law is beginning to fish them out. Nigerians should be more conscious that there are serial killers and should be Security conscious.
Killing four persons, and using their intestines to cook, is considered dastardly, and even the defense of insanity would not avail him. The important thing is that justice is served.
