Rivers State Witnesses Low Voter Turnout for Governorship Elections

The governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Rivers State slated to hold on Saturday have witnessed a low turnout of voters across all polling units in the state.

This is a huge contrast to the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections, which saw a high turnout of eligible voters from 8 am.

It might also seem as was the case during the Presidential polls, that the electoral officers had not arrived as of 10 am.

Additionally, in some parts of Port Harcourt, youths were seen playing football on the streets, with no intention to go out and exercise their franchise.

The poor turnout of voters may be a result of the political tension in the state coupled with the recent show of force by the military and the police on Friday, March 17, not discounting the fact that during the presidential elections, there had been several reports of election malpractice reported in several polling units in the state.
