Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy of the P-Square duo, has criticized the increasing display of smoking among emerging artists in their music videos.
Taking to his Instagram story on Saturday, Rudeboy expressed concern over how often new acts glamorize weed smoking in their visuals, even before the music begins.
“Dear new acts, abeg, who tell una say una must smoke Igbo for camera during visuals?” he wrote. “20 seconds into the video, una don dey light up. Na your choice oh, but make sure you dey chop better food too.”
Rudeboy pointed out the irony of young entertainers spending large sums of money on weed while struggling to afford basic necessities like proper meals.
“You’re looking sick. You dey smoke around ₦50k but dey battle Indomie of ₦1k without egg. Under pressure,” he added.
He advised upcoming artistes to focus on their health and stop trying to maintain a false image for social media or music videos.
According to him, pushing a “fake swag” image at the expense of personal well-being is a dangerous trend that needs to be checked.
