Russian President Vladimir Putin says he’s ready to have peace talks with Ukraine on the previously negotiated agreement. At a forum in Vladivostok on Thursday, Putin stated that Russia has never refused negotiations with Ukraine, but that any dialogue must be based on the papers agreed upon and initialled in Istanbul in 2022.
This statement by Putin comes after a year-long war between Russia and Ukraine, despite foreign sanctions threats. It is possible that this is an indication of a new approach from the president, although it remains uncertain whether or not Ukraine will take up this offer.
Russia cited before this move that Ukraine’s invasion of the Kursk region was why the talks could not proceed. However, his latest remark shows how much he is more keen on learning new things by engaging with crashed and defeated people in conversations.
