Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State governor, has directed security agencies in the State to purge Sagamu and its related regions, of the nuisance of cultists and cult-related activities.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Lekan Adeniran, Abiodun had given the order in Abeokuta.
The order had come in the aftermath of renewed clashes among opposing cult gangs in the town at the weekend, spiking tension and panic among residents of the community.
The governor had assured residents that a new security approach would be executed in partnership with the traditional institution, community and religious leaders, youth groups and other critical stakeholders.
He, therefore, urged the good people of the state to provide adequate and correct information to security agents for prompt response to forestall future occurrences.
While security agents have already been dispatched to the troubled town to restore some sense of normalcy, the governor expressed regrets on the loss of innocent lives and the wanton destruction of properties by the hoodlums.
Governor Abiodun had also revealed that the police force and its sister security agencies have been given a matching order, to ruthlessly and decisively deal with those disturbing the peace of the town.
