Bukayo Saka scored two goals in the Three Lions’ commanding 7-0 win against Croatia on Saturday, which took his tally for England to 16, surpassing David Beckham for all-time goalscoring for the country.
Arsenal winger confirmed his striking potency for England with a hat-trick, taking his global goal tally to 19 at senior level, overtaking 17-goal Beckham despite playing 56 fewer internationals.
He became the first player born in the 2000s to score for England. His goal was also the highest any Arsenal player has scored while playing for England.
His first goal came when England were already three goals ahead, as Saka was left unmarked in the box before finishing coolly.
The 25-year-old started his brace after anticipating a loose pass the quickest, playing a one-two with Harry Kane and striking it home from close range.

Saka’s display was also supported by big numbers. He had the highest xG in the game at 2.29, topped the charts for touches in the opposition’s box and finished joint-top for shots with five.
“It was an incredible night for us,” said Saka. “We started well; we were on top from the beginning. We played with high energy and spirit; we punished them, and we loved it.”
The century also highlighted how key Saka is to England, though his intense schedule over the international break might worry the Gunners.
He has clocked up 90, 71 and 83 minutes in England’s three games so far – and the Three Lions will face the Czechs again at Wembley on Tuesday.
