As Liverpool honour a title-winning season under new manager Arne Slot, Mohamed Salah tops a star-studded list of candidates for the 2024/25 Premier League Player of the Season award.
Salah, who led the Reds’ drive to the title, is about to match the all-time single-season record for combined goals and assists (47), now held by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole. With 28 goals and 18 assists so far, the Egyptian last month already surpassed the mark for a 38-game season.
Along with colleagues Ryan Gravenberch and Virgil van Dijk, he is on an eight-man shortlist; Liverpool finished the championship with four games to spare — a feat formerly achieved by just three teams.
Also acknowledged are Nottingham Forest duo Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White. Having scored 20 goals, Wood is only the second Forest player to hit that mark in a Premier League season; Gibbs-White’s six goals and eight assists helped guarantee European football.
Following a remarkable season at Arsenal, Declan Rice is nominated; Newcastle’s Alexander Isak (23 goals) and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo (18 goals round out the list.
Along with Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen—who is apparently headed for Real Madrid— and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, last season’s victor, the Young Player of the Season shortlist also features Gravenberch.
While Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga, Arsenal’s William Saliba, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, and Brighton’s Joao Pedro are also in contention, Ipswich striker Liam Delap makes history as the first nominee from a relegated team.
With 12 clean sheets and an 79.5% one-on-one success rate, Saliba shines; Rogers has 17 goal involvements in Villa’s top-four run.
Despite a subdued second half, Palmer is still among the best creators in the league, having 15 goals and eight assists for Chelsea.
