The entire structure of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State officially collapsed into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during a coalition meeting on Saturday.
The event, presided over by former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, brought together party leaders, former commissioners, and political stakeholders. According to the Coalition Publicity Secretary, Darius Kurah, the merger signals a new direction for politics in the state.

Speaking at the gathering, El-Rufai described the move as a bold step. He said:
“I must commend the courage, wisdom and foresight demonstrated here today. What we are witnessing is not just an alliance of party structures, but a unity of purpose.”
The ex-governor argued that Kaduna could only achieve progress when politicians set aside personal interests and work together. “The spirit of unity that has brought us here today is what will sustain us tomorrow,” he added.

ADC Vice Chairman (North West), Ja’afar Mohammed Sani, praised the SDP leadership for choosing a larger platform. “This is a new dawn for Kaduna politics,” he said, stressing that the coalition was about restoring hope in governance.
ADC State Chairman, Elder Patrick Ambut, also welcomed the SDP members. He said: “This is not about old or new members. From today, we are one family with a shared destiny.”
Mallam Bashir Saidu, ADC leader in Kaduna State, echoed the same sentiment, describing the merger as a convergence of ideas committed to service and transparency.
Next Steps for the New Coalition
One key resolution from the meeting was the formation of a Membership Registration Committee. The committee will work with local and ward structures to carry out fresh membership registration and revalidation across the state.
Kurah explained that this move would strengthen ADC’s grassroots base and prepare the party for future elections. “The revalidation exercise will not only consolidate the merger but also position the ADC as a strong, united and people-driven party in Kaduna State,” he said.
With SDP collapsing into ADC, El-Rufai applauds unity as Kaduna’s political scene takes a new turn. The merger has set the stage for a stronger coalition, which party leaders say will provide a credible alternative and shape the future of politics in the state.
