According to reports, Prof. Oyibo Chukwu, the senatorial candidate for the Labour Party in the Enugu East Senatorial District, was killed.
The presidential and national assembly elections will take place in around three days.
He and other party members were burned alive late on Wednesday night in Amaechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area, Enugu State.
According to reports, unidentified individuals approached them while they were traveling in a Sienna car and set the car on fire. There were reportedly five affected people. A campaign vehicle belonging to Hon. Offor Chukwuegbo, a member of the House of Representatives, was also reported to have been set ablaze within the same axis. The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee for the Enugu North/South Federal Constituency is Chukwuegbo.
The incident left an unknown number of injuries, however, the minibus driver was reportedly slain.
Regarding the two instances, the police have not yet released a statement.
