Senator Annie Okonkwo Dies

An ex-lawmaker, Senator Clement Annie Okonkwo who was a representative for Anambra Central Senatorial District in the sixth National Assembly, has been confirmed dead.

According to reports, Senator Okonkwo had died on Wednesday, June 7 from a brief illness at the age of 63.

His death is coming a few days before the inauguration ceremony of his son, Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, who is the House of Reps member-elect for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency of the state.

The late Senator had been a former governorship aspirant during the 2010 governorship election in the State, but had lost to the incumbent governor, Peter Obi, who was re-elected for office.

His close family is yet to release an official statement regarding his passing.
