News broke on Monday that the acting member of the senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu was officially withdrawing from the run to produce the next president of Nigeria.
In a personally signed statement made in Abuja, Kalu firmly cast his support for the current Senate President, Ahmed Lawan who had early had the APC nomination form purchased for him by the National Stability Project group.
Kalu congratulated the senate president, describing Lawan as a friend, boss, and former roommate, and expressed joy that he was from the North-Eastern region of Nigeria.
He stated that the zone was the only one other than the South-East yet to produce a president, he reiterated his stance as a seeker of justice, fairness, and equity for the country. But, he also expressed deep disappointment that southern members of the party had failed to display a spirit of brotherliness and were yet to nominate a single candidate from the southeast zone.
He said: “In the absence of a south-easterner being president of Nigerian in 2023, I have my full support for a north-easterner. It also means that justice is on its way to the south-east.”
Kalu concluded his statement by urging all his friends and supporters to adhere to the principles of justice and give their full support to Senator Ahmed Lawan.
