Seven-Day Strike: Oyo Health Workers Demand Better Conditions

The Oyo State Chapter of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria announced on Sunday that all members should start a seven-day warning strike on Monday, June 24, 2024, to further push the union’s demands.

This announcement was made in a notification letter sent to members across all health institutions, including ministries, departments, and local government areas, by the union President, John Fabunmi. A copy of the letter was obtained by The PUNCH in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Sunday.

Fabunmi stated that the strike is necessary to press their demands, noting that the union has previously informed the State Government of its grievances, but no action has been taken to address them.

The letter indicated that, following a previous communication on May 27, 2024, which gave the state government a 14-day ultimatum to address their grievances, no action has been taken to resolve the issues.

Due to ongoing dissatisfaction and pressure from union members, the union decided to begin a seven-day warning strike to compel the government to respond to their concerns.

All members across health institutions, ministries, and local governments will participate in the strike starting at midnight on Monday, June 24, 2024, with potential for further actions afterward, according to Fabunmi.
