Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has asked its development partners to be more understanding of the economic pressures it is presently under, as the nation keeps pursuing development plans to try and manage its growing debt burden.
Sisi had had made this appeal during a finance summit in Paris, further revealing that programs for improving road networks, renewables, water distillations and using electric transportation vehicles had put a significant dent in the nation’s economy.
The Egyptian president has meanwhile, asked for more debt swaps.
On the brighter side, a plan to manage the debt is being implemented but it seems as if things are moving at a slow pace for the country. This might be an after-effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine War.
Egypt is at present, facing an overwhelming tough task of obtaining cash for foreign debt repayments after borrowing externally quadrupled dramatically in the past eight years.
